Don't Leave Gaps in Your Treatment after a Honolulu Car Accident

If you have been injured in a Honolulu car accident and are under the care of a medical provider, you should follow through with all treatment plans and do exactly what the doctors tell you to do. Not doing so can result in more serious injuries and a greater recovery time, and can provide the insurance company with a reason to minimize your claim or to deny it altogether.

Seek Medical Treatment Right Away

If you are injured in a car accident, or you suspect that you may be injured, seek medical treatment immediately. If you are seriously injured, go to the emergency room. If your injuries appear only minor, or you are not sure if you are injured, make an appointment with your doctor for a thorough check-up. When much time passes between the accident and the day treatment is sought, the insurance company may argue that injuries being treated are not a result of the accident or that the injuries must not be all that serious since you waited so long to seek treatment.

Follow all of Your Doctors’ Instructions

Many Honolulu accident victims make the mistake of skipping appointments or stopping physical therapy if they start to feel a little better. Don’t make this mistake. Continue all therapies through to completion and make sure you make it to all of your appointments. If you have to miss an appointment for some reason, reschedule it as soon as you can.

The insurance companies and defense lawyers love it when you have unexplained gaps in your treatment or you miss appointments after a car wreck. Doing so often gives them just what they need to fight your claim and build a stronger case against you.
